Sasha Kovriga

When Mason shared his idea for a firm focused on investing in small businesses, Sasha became one of the first investors. A decade later, in 2019, Mason asked Sasha to join Greybull to help identify new investment opportunities and oversee Greybull’s portfolio companies.

For Sasha, joining Greybull as a partner is a culmination of more than two decades of experience as a strategy consultant, equity portfolio manager, and entrepreneur.

“I am not only bringing my analytic and organization-building skills to our businesses, but also the experience of being an entrepreneur. I can’t imagine anything more meaningful than helping our businesses write the next chapter of their story.”

Sasha immigrated to the US at age sixteen from the former Soviet Union. He studied philosophy both at undergraduate and graduate levels (Brandeis University and University of Massachusetts, Amherst) and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 2002. Prior to Greybull, Sasha was a partner and portfolio manager at Osterweis Capital Management for fourteen years, the co-founder of a wealth management startup and a management consultant with Monitor Group (now Monitor Deloitte).

“My immigrant experience and the need to adjust to the new world helped me develop my ability to understand and empathize with the experiences of people different from me.”

Sasha’s ability to empathize and his commitment to others has helped in his business career and has defined his volunteer pursuits. Sasha has been actively engaged in his community with a number of nonprofit board roles including serving as the chair of the Investment Committee of Marin Country Day School, the Treasurer of Congregation Emanu-El, trustee of Summer Search Foundation and Jewish Community Center of San Francisco.

Sasha lives in Mill Valley, CA with his wife and three daughters where he spends time listening to lowbrow German pop music, reading highbrow philosophical works, and hiking the trails of beautiful Marin County.
