Main Street Gourmet co-CEO Presented Leadership Award by Greaker Akron Chamber

Last night, Steven Marks, co-CEO of Main Street Gourmet, received the H. Peter Burg Business Leadership Award from the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce. The award was created by the to recognize a local business leader who promotes economic development in the Greater Akron region.  Main Street Gourmet was selected to the 1992 and 1993 “Inc. 500,” a listing of the fastest growing companies in the United States. In 1993, Steve and his co-CEO Harvey Nelson were chosen by Inc. Magazine and Ernst & Young as the “1993 Entrepreneurs of the Year Award for Northeastern Ohio.” In 1994 and 2011 the U.S. Small Business Administration selected Steve and Harvey as the “Small Business Person(s) of the Year” in Northern Ohio.

Marks is the founder of the Road Runner Akron Marathon, launched in 2003, funded by Steve’s family to promote health and fitness to create a marquee event for the community and ultimately benefit charitable organizations. This event features a full marathon, two and five person relays, Kids Fun Run, a Health and Fitness Expo and more. Aside from bringing more than 10,000 runners and over 100,000 spectators together, it has generated large donations for area charitable organizations.
Greater Akron Chamber President Dan Colantone says Marks was chosen unanimously for the award because of his continued leadership and his contributions to the community. “It’s amazing when you have an event like the Akron Marathon with a $4 million impact, but more importantly, it gives our citizens of the community, in the region and in Northeast Ohio an opportunity to enjoy a family event,” says Colantone.  With the leadership of Marks, Colantone says he has seen the economy in Akron strengthen as both large and small businesses grow from the marathon.
